This week the children enjoyed a presentation by Wonders of Nature.  They got to see a hawk, an owl, various parrots, a squirrel and even an opossum. The presenter talked to the children about each animal, how they take care of themselves and what special sense they have for survival, like owls have really good hearing and squirrels have good sense of smell.

On Wednesday the children did some cooking!  They made pudding.  Everyone got a chance to pour and stir and taste!

First they dumped in the pudding mix

Then they stirred in the milk and crunched up graham crackers for a topping.

Putting finishing touches on some of their Florida art. This month we will be working on pumpkins and black cats and big yellow moons......yep, Halloween!  See you Monday!

This past week, the children continued to learn about Florida.
They made orange trees and bathing suits!

On Wednesday, the children discovered lizards (not real) and magnifying glasses in the classroom.  They enjoyed looking at different things using the magnifying glasses.  They discovered that things look bigger through a magnifying glass!

 Underwater Bubbles????

Fish sewing cards - Eye hand coordination and small motor skills. Small motor skills lead to building muscles to hold pencils!  :)

I loved to watch the girls trying to figure out stacking blocks. They soon discovered that the blocks would only stack if the largest blocks are on the bottom. Physics? Maybe?  :)

Sometime I just have to try and then I discover, I CAN DO IT!

This month the children will be learning about where they live, Florida.  On Monday, I did a finger play with them about  5 Cranky Crabs. The children painted "red" crabs.  We read Beach Day.

The children discovered sand and seashells in their sensory table this week and books about the sea and the beach.  I was amazed how they took to these books this week!

On Wednesday, we read Ten Friendly Fish, a counting book.  I  pointed out to them all the colorful tropical fish in the book and we counted.  Later, I gave them sponge brushes, preloaded with water color paint.  These are so much fun, lots of color!  They painted tropical fish using many colors AND added some glitter to make them shine. :)
