The week before our Thanksgiving break, we explored some of the food that we might eat at Thanksgiving.  Monday, was Pumpkin Pie Day!  The children made their own pumpkin pies by crumbling up some graham crackers and then they made pumpkin spice pudding to go on top.  I'd say the reviews were mixed on who actually liked the pie, but they had fun making them.

The children made beautiful fall trees.

On Wednesday, the children snapped green beans. This was definitely a new experience for some of the children but they caught on pretty quick. The directions were to "snap" off the end of the bean, the stalk, were it grew from the vine and then snap the beans again into smaller pieces.
I put them on the stove to cook and they were ready for us to taste by the end of the morning.

The children had a great day with Mrs. Booze on Friday. I was attending the National Early Childhood Conference in Orlando from Wednesday through Friday.  Such a great opportunity for me! There were over 10,000 early childhood educators in attendance over 5 days.  I was able to listen to high quality, national speakers, children book authors and presenters.  I am so thankful that the school sent me!

I hope that all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!  See you Monday!

We started off last week with a play put on by Timeless Tales Theatre, Tom Turkey.  It was great, as usual.  It was about the pilgrims coming to a new land and the friends they made when they got here and of course about a turkey.  They children always seem to enjoy these shows.

Finger painting turkey tale feathers...

The children also worked on a fall picture this week.  They were given red, yellow and a bit of green paint and 3 different tools, two spools and a cork.  They glued a tree trunk to a piece of paper and then "printed" leaves on it.  It was interesting to watch the different techniques.

Some classroom fun...

This week the children will be making pumpkin spice pudding and they will be snapping green beans! Maybe they could help you with Thanksgiving dinner?

This week, the children were working on making fall leaves and corn.  They used a lot of yellow and red color.  Our classroom is full of fall color!

For making fall leaves, the children used a variety of painting tools, including a dish washing sponge and several koosh ball items.  We were trying to "pounce" instead of using strokes.  They did pretty well with this new technique.

We read a book this week, Fall Leaves, Fall,  by Zoe Hall. This story talks about all the different kinds of trees and their different leaves.

Birthday matching game.   We had another birthday!

     Happy Birthday Greta!

I added some fall items to the classroom last week for the children to explore,  fall leaves and some ornamental corn.  I noticed one morning that the "corn" from the kitchen area was on the table and so I thought, "Hmm, why is that over here?"  Then I realized that someone in the classroom had made the connection that this was corn too!  They are so bright!

The next big project for our class, was to make "corn".  The children were asked to roll paint on to bubble wrap. Then we laid a sheet of paper on top of the paint and the children rubbed the paper with their hands.  They made some really pretty prints.  Of course, who can resist bubble wrap?  Those little bubbles are so fun to pop!  Look closely at the photos and you will see a few children sneaking in a "pop" or two.  :)

We have been reading The Little Old Woman Who Was Not Afraid of Anything.  It is a Halloween story with a fun ending.  The little old woman ends up making a scarecrow, and so you see, we have added a scarecrow to our corn field too!

Creating some fall decorations for home.

See you Monday!
