This week we started our unit on zoo animals.  We learned about elephants on Wednesday.  Did you know they use their tail as a fly swatter?  Or as one student suggested, "To swat away bees!"  (That's one heck of a bee!)  We also learned about the "finger" on the end of the elephant's trunk.  It helps the elephant to pick up things. Asian elephants have one finger, African elephants have two.  Who knew? We talked about the elephants having wrinkled skin.  The children then painted an elephant on wrinkled paper and got to chose if they were going to paint a grey or brown elephant. I love the two handed painting!

The children found a lot of zoo animal activities in their classroom this week. Including magnifying glasses to check out elephant pictures, matching games and zoo animals and zoo animal books.

Sometimes dressing up makes everything better :)

On Friday the children painted tiger stripes.

They are always so proud to show me what they have created, even the most simple things. :)

I hope you all saw this past week's Monday Memo, as our class was featured!  ")

This week we will see a play, Rapunzel, and learn more about animals.  See you Monday!
