This week we continued with our Garden unit.  I read Flower Garden by Eve Bunting, to the children.  It is a wonderful story about a little girl who lives in the city, she buys plants at a grocery store and then plants a window box for her mom's birthday.  We talked about living in the city, riding the bus, climbing stairs to your apartment and of course planting a window box.  The children got to plant real flowers in a window box!  We also discussed the various parts of the plants, petals, stems and roots.

And of course, there is always cleanup......

This week, the sensory table had materials in it for planting flowers, including "dirt", small flower pots and silk flowers.
(The "dirt" is actually coffee mixed with corn meal and it smells sooooo good!)

The children found some new items to explore in the room this week.  They are working with shapes and colors.

We also read the book, Planting a Rainbow by Lois Ehlert. The children created beautiful bouquets. They made the flowers by crunching up tissue paper. (Working on fine motor skills)

Next week, St. Patrick's Day!
