It was so nice to see you yesterday! Thank you for the delicious cookies and pretty flowers, too!
Today we are going to learn about dolphins. I love dolphins. They always seem to have a smile on their face!
Here is a fun fact for you. There is a marine park near St Augustine, FL, called Marineland. Years ago, they had a dolphin that was born there named Nellie. Nellie was the first dolphin born in captivity to survive and she lived for over 60 years. Nellie the dolphin, was named after my grandmother, Nellie Neighbors. My grandmother worked at Marineland for many years as a ticket taker. And now you know a bit of Florida history!!!
Dolphins use a variety of sounds to communicate with each other including whistles, clicks, and
other noises.
other noises.
Dolphins do have excellent hearing and eyesight.
Dolphins swim in the water but they are air breathers just like humans.
They need to resurface and use a blowhole at the top of their head for breathing purposes.

Dolphins use echolocation to find the exact location and distance of objects, including their food.
Echolocation bounces off of the object and they can measure the distance by the amount of time
it takes to bounce back or return to them.

Sung to: "Adam's Family Theme"
When they get into the notion
They jump out of the ocean
With tail fluke locomotion,
The dolphin family
Swim in the sea, eee eee
Swim in the sea, eee eee
Swim in the sea
Live in a pod
Swim in the sea, eee eee
I bet you didn't suppose
Their blow hole was their nose
And in and out the air goes
The dolphin family
Swim in the sea, eee eee
Swim in the sea, eee eee
Swim in the sea,
Live in a pod
Swim in the sea, eee eee

Gross Motor/Outdoor -
Dolphins can jump and do tricks in the water! So try some too with hoops. So fun! Great way to link the dolphin theme and get in some gross motor fun.
Emma asked about the flowers that we planted at school and so I took a picture for you to see. They are doing very well! I water them every day. I have them on my front porch and they get lots of sun.
